Be The Change Day
Wednesday, August 16, 2017
We are pleased to announce that this year’s Be The Change Day at Youngevity’s 20th Year Celebration Convention will be in Three Sessions! Similar to last year’s wonderful time together, we have partnered with My Story Matters, a Youngevity Be The Change Foundation charity partner, to story book the lives of approximately 60 struggling teenagers, many of whom attend the Dallas Can Academy, where the event will take place. Attached to the Academy is a Wee Can Academy day care center and we will also be story-booking the lives of approximately 20 5-10 year olds as well.
We toured the facility twice in the last 60 days. We could not help but notice that the campus is in need of beautifying. Obviously educating the children who attend both academies is its first priority but we noticed a sad vegetable garden attempt and thought why not help this become not only viable with Doc’s minerals, but a pleasant place to look at as well? So, we will now have three sessions, beginning with a Gardening Club Project at 11:00 AM, followed by our first session for interviewing and photographing the Wee Can Academy younger children from 12:00 -2:30 and then the teenagers from 3:00-6:00pm.
We cannot accomplish this service project without your help! If you were a part of last year’s Be The Change Day, you know how incredibly heart warming it is and how we ourselves became changed as well just by having this special time together. If you are bringing laptops or tablets with you to Convention, please consider bringing them along with you as there will be a limited number of computers for us to use at the facility and to help facilitate a smooth transition from child to child, this would be appreciated. If you would like to volunteer to interview children, please sign up below.
We need your help!
Wow!! We are astounded and amazed at the incredible response in just 24 hours to the sign up page for our Be The Change Day on August 16, 2017 in Dallas, Texas at Youngevity’s 20th year celebration convention!! We are so very grateful to all of you for your sincere desire to make a difference in these children’s lives and are humbled to be a part of such a giving community and the vibrant culture that makes up the fabric of the Youngevity Nation.
In response to the outcry of disappointment and because we would never want to stand in the way of your giving hearts, we have reached out to The Dallas Can Academy, the Wee Can Academy and the Dallas Urban Specialists and have made the decision to open the site back up in all areas of service from noon today (PST) to noon Friday (PST).
If you will please register on the site and indicate your area of service preference (all previous registerees are already accounted for), we will make every effort to accommodate this preference. We sincerely ask for your patience and flexibility as this is obviously a response that neither the schools nor we could anticipate. We will communicate with you via email or telephone regarding placing you where we learn the need is greater.
Please keep in mind that this is likely an environment that you have never experienced before and it will be foreign to the students we wish to serve as well. Although you will be forever changed for the better, it might be tough to hear some of the stories that are shared with you – IF we can make the teens comfortable enough to share their personal stories and struggles with you and guide them to share their aspirations and goals for the future that will be included in the My Story Matters book of their lives that is the end product of our service to them. We will make every effort to ensure that each team of volunteers has at least one student to bond with, and remember, a teaching conference will be scheduled in July for all participants (and it will be recorded as well) so you will have a rough idea of your service.
The site will be permanently turned off on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 12:00 NOON (PST) to allow everyone involved in planning this event to make all efforts to have it be a deeply impactful day of service and touching memory for everyone who is involved. Leaders, please make sure your teams know this vital information!!
With Joy (and a little trepidation for managing expectations!),

Volunteer to Interview Children
Volunteers work one on one with individuals to gather information from their lives to create a custom storybook all about the child's life. These volunteers must communicate clearly, write legibly, and build a positive relationship with those they work with. These situations are often filled with difficult and sensitive memories. Volunteers help put families at ease through this process.
If you’d like a chance to be paired up with a child and learn about their life sign up today! We will have training available before the event to help you with every step of the way! Your job here is to LOVE them and help them feel like their life really does matter!
Remember to bring your laptop!
Volunteer to Photograph
A vital piece of telling each child's story are beautiful photographs capturing the life, love, and laughter between a child and their family. With most of our locations space and environment are less than ideal but our gifted photographers capture moments of custom happiness that we weave throughout their story to create a beautiful heirloom for the child and their family.
If you have a gift for capturing the beauty of another individual in a photograph we would love to let you share those talents with us! You will need your own equipment. Photos must be transferred over to My Story Matters before the end of the week, there are several ways to do that and you’ll get all those details if you sign up.
Volunteer Your Green Thumb!
If you would like to be a part of making a difference that continues to grow long after we leave, please sign up to plant vegetables and flowers and plants (of course using Doc’s minerals)! We were met with beaming smiles when we suggested that we knew we had some amazing gardeners that could help spruce up the campus and provide a pretty background for the outside photos of the students during our Be The Change Day. We are hopeful to have enough volunteers to make a big enough impact to the front “yard” (it is very small and in a very urban setting) to be able to take photographs of the students outside about an hour later and then move our efforts into the back playground and garden area of the Wee Can Academy Day Care Center.
We need your help and expertise!! Please sign up below and bring your gloves and a small trowel with you!
